Flat Feet
Flat feet occur when the arches of the feet flatten, causing the entire sole to touch the floor when standing. While often painless, flat feet can cause problems in the ankles and knees.

Symptoms:
Foot pain, especially in the arch or heel; Swelling along the inside of the ankle; Tired or achy feet after standing; Difficulty with certain foot movements; Pain in knees or hips
Causes:
Genetic factors; Weakened arches due to aging or injury; Abnormal foot development in childhood; Arthritis; Damaged tendons; Obesity
Treatments:
Custom orthotic devices; Supportive, well-fitted shoes; Physical therapy and stretching exercises; Anti-inflammatory medications; Surgery (in severe cases)
